Atlantic City - Night #3

Greetings from Atlantic City!  We dropped our mooring in Port Washington Tuesday morning at 6:20 AM in the dark and slowly worked our way to New York City.  It was a cool clear morning and the tide conditions were perfect.  We made it through NYC very well - it really was amazing - I took a ton of pictures, but put some highlights here:

Once we passed through NYC, then we spent the rest of the day cruising along the 80 miles of the New Jersey coast - all beach... I put a picture below of what we looked at for hours . . . along with my sweet Captain!

We really lucked out with the weather - the conditions were ideal - a following sea (which basically means relatively calm yet pushing us along at the same time), warm sunshine, and the winds at our back.  We couldn't have asked for better - we were really blessed.  We pulled into Atlantic City and tied up to our dock before 7:00 PM.  After being on the boat for over 55 hours, it felt good to put our feet on terra firma - even if it is Atlantic City!  The marina here is beautiful, but as we all know AC is a bit cheesy.  We went to the Borgata last night and had dinner at Bobby Flay's steakhouse and then we hit the slots.  Paul won $27.50 in about 3 minutes and I lost $20 in about 2 minutes - so we gained $7.50!  I'm not a big gambler (obviously) but we had a good time.

Today we are heading to Cape May - about 36 miles south of here at the very tip of the New Jersey Shore.  It will be a short day compared to what we have been doing (50 miles Sunday, 90 miles Monday, and 110 miles on Tuesday).  Then tomorrow - if the weather is still cooperating - we will head across the Delaware Bay and through the C & D Canal (Chesapeake and Delaware) - this obviously connects the Delaware River and the Chesapeake Bay.  Once we cross the canal, then we will be at the northern tip of the Chesapeake Bay and in the days to follow, we will work our way down the 200+ miles to Norfolk, VA where the InterCoastal Waterway officially begins.

We'll keep you posted - but so far, so great - it has been a wonderful journey.  Thinking of all our dear friends and family and sending our love - Jen & Paul

  1. This is great. I'm new to the Blogging thing. Looks like the trip has been pretty nice so far. Of course, I just jinxed you now. Actually, we are going to be getting some crap weather starting tomorrow, so you probably have it now. Sorry I missed you guys at liftoff, I was actually in that "snotty" water at Pt Judith that you went through. Anyway, just wanted to say hi to you guys. Bob
