Leaving Charleston

Good Sunday morning dearest friends and followers!  I type this from Master Plan as we glide out of Charleston and start working our way to Beaufort, SC - about 65 miles.

We had a wonderful week in Charleston and enjoyed the city thoroughly and look forward to returning in the spring.  We spent exactly one week there and are ready to continue our journey!

The weather was very strange this week - it was mild and lovely until about Wednesday - then a cold front blew in and it was very cold and super windy until yesterday afternoon.  Some crazy weather blew through very near us on Wednesday evening - lots of tornado watches and severe thunderstorm activity - fortunately, most of it went north of us and we had a little rain and some winds, but nothing too crazy.  So we were in our woolen hats and jackets on Friday evening and this morning, we are in our shorts - crazy!  A lovely day is in store - the winds have subsided significantly and it is supposed to be in the high 70's today.

We spent yesterday walking around the city, then preparing for our journey - we "fed the bitch," pumped her out, did laundry, and stocked up on groceries - a huge plus in Charleston is that we are a very short walk from a fabulous grocery store - Harris Teeter - or as Paul likes to say "Mrs. Harris' Teeters!"  It's like a combination of Whole Foods and Stop & Shop - a great store!  So, we're stocked up for a few days!

A few shots of Charleston and our amazement with the large ships that pass by so closely to our marina.  It is really a sight to see and I hope the photos can capture just how cool it all is.
Charleston Maritime Center Marina from the Marina Office - it is a special place and the staff are awesome.  You can see Master Plan on the right docked facing to the right.

A large car carrier backing into its dock - it comes up the river and then is turned around with the help of two tug boats and guided into its slip.
Continuing the turn
We had a large Coast Guard ship docked near us for most of the week.  It looks like one of the newer ships in the fleet.

The Coast Guard ship departs yesterday - again being guided by tug boats as it is backed out of the slip.  This shot was taken from Master Plan's stern at the marina.
The Tug boat helps the Coast Guard ship with its departure from port.
This morning a ship from the Middle East comes in and is assisted by another Tug.  You can see a paddle boarder in blue just to the left (and just to the right of the sailboat).

To give you an idea of its large size . . .
I took this as Master Plan departs our marina - you can see the Tug on the right pushing this mammoth ship towards the dock.
We will post again soon and hope you are all enjoying your Sunday!  Lots of love, Jen & Paul
