Greetings!
We continue to enjoy our time in the state of Washington - such glorious natural beauty! After 4 great days in Olympic National Park, we headed to Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, which was a short 90-minute drive. Fort Worden is a spectacular state park right on the water in the very northeast corner of the Olympic peninsula. What made it even more fabulous is that it is 5-minutes from my cousin John's house! I hadn't seen John and his lovely wife Betty in over 20 years and they had never met Paul, so it was such a wonderful visit! After we settled in at the campground, John and Betty came over, we visited, and then we went to their beautiful home for a delicious dinner and delightful conversation. It was SO special! Before dinner, they drove us around Port Townsend and it is a beautiful city (Wikipedia link here) with lots of cool Victorian buildings. John and Betty's house is so lovely - you can see the water and Mt. Rainier in the distance from their living room window. It was such a wonderful evening and very special to reconnect.
Here are a few photos of the campsite and John and Betty!
The next morning, we took a walk around Fort Worden - here are a few photos. In the second photo, that is Mt. Baker in the background - where we were heading next.

Our next stop was the North Cascades National Park and there is a ferry that goes from Port Townsend to Whidbey Island just across the sound - a quick 35-minute ride which saved a few hours of driving (including going through Seattle) and it was really fun to take the Airstream on her first ferry ride. Paul videotaped us boarding as well as the boat arriving at the dock and then our driving off the ferry. You can click on the links to see the videos. Of course, we also took lots of photos! The first one is our waiting in line and you can see Port Townsend in the background.
In route to the North Cascades, we did a quick stop at Deception Pass (Wikipedia link here) - such a beautiful spot with steep cliffs, very strong currents and dramatic views and 2 really cool bridges. We were able to find a spot along the side of the road big enough to accommodate us with the Airstream - we were so happy that we could get out and walk around to get a closer look.
We arrived at our campsite mid-afternoon and would enjoy a glorious weekend in the North Cascades National Park and Mt. Baker National Forest - more to come on that in the next post!
We are truly grateful and blessed to be on this fantastic trip and truly appreciate your following along!
Love, Jen & Paul
