Getting our BRN!

What is BRN you say?  It's a highly technical term for those who join the International Airstream Club, which we did soon after we bought our Airstream.  It stands for - wait for it - BIG RED NUMBER!

When you join the club, you can pick a number (if available) or they assign you one.  We tried a few numbers, but they were already taken, so they assigned us 4977 and that sure works for us!

Here is a little history about the BRN:  For over 60 years, the Wally Byam Caravan Club International (Airstream Club International) has been assigning members numbers and it all started in 1951 with the first Airstream Wally Byam Caravan. Imagine leading a caravan of 63 or so Airstreams throughout Central America not now, but in 1951-1952. Without having the benefit of cell phones or GPS to connect with caravan members, Wally Byam assigned big red numbers which were placed on the front and rear end-cap of the Airstreams – making it easier to keep track of a large group of travelers facing rugged terrain and many weather-related problems.

Here are a few photos (and one video) of Paul skillfully attaching the numbers - you will note that they are big and red!  😂

Ta Da indeed!  Joining the Airstream Club has opened a lot of doors for us and we have met so many nice people so far.  It is completely optional - there are many who don't join the club, but we are grateful we did as they offer lots of networking activities, as well as access to tons of great information about the care of our home on wheels.

Cheers and love, Jen & Paul
